His reaction is nuanced: He confesses to feeling a certain vicious bloodlust while watching the video \u2014 \u201cI really wanted them to hurt the kid\u201d \u2014 but realizes that this is a horrific impulse that ought to concern him. \u201cI should remember that somewhere somebody probably loves this kid, and would be crushed if he was killed,\u201d Carlson writes.<br>But the most important line is one where he describes the attack in racial terms: \u201cJumping a guy like that is dishonorable obviously. It\u2019s not how white men fight.\u201d<br>His obvious implication is that nonwhite men gang up on defenseless opponents all the time, whereas whites only commit violence honorably.&#8221;<br>&#8230;<br>&#8220;is it any worse than&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2022\/5\/19\/23123050\/hungary-cpac-2022-replacement-theory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mainstreaming the \u201cgreat replacement\u201d conspiracy theory<\/a>&nbsp;developed by white supremacists? Is it more offensive than saying immigrants make America \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/tucker-carlson\/tucker-carlson-immigration-makes-america-poorer-and-dirtier-and-more-divided\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poorer, and dirtier, and more divided<\/a>\u201d? Is it more racist than&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/tucker-carlson\/tucker-carlson-lists-unarmed-black-americans-killed-police-2019-and-why-they-were\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">downplaying the killings of unarmed Black men by the police<\/a>, or accusing Tennessee state Rep. Justin Pearson (who is Black) of putting on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/tucker-carlsons-racist-sharecropper-attack-justin-pearson-rcna79585\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a fake \u201csharecropper\u201d accent<\/a>?<br>Tucker has done all of these things on the air&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>&#8230;<br>&#8220;A core part of Tucker Carlson\u2019s message is that he, and his viewers, are colorblind: that they are<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9192379\/Tucker-Carlson-blasts-Joe-Bidens-equity-orders-claims-disgust-Martin-Luther-King-Jr.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;standing up for the ideals of Martin Luther King Jr. against liberals<\/a>&nbsp;who want to polarize America along racial lines for their own nefarious purposes. \u201cYou can\u2019t attack people, whole groups of people on the basis of their race and ethnicity. Not in the media, especially,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/fox-news\/tucker-carlson-claims-nbc-news-openly-advocating-genocide-white-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">he said in a representative February broadcast<\/a>.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>&#8230;<br>&#8220;Seeing whites as at once the master race and victims is common in racist thought. Nazi propaganda described Jews as both inferior to Aryans and their conspiratorial oppressors; modern-day white supremacists routinely warn about the prospect of \u201cwhite genocide,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediamatters.org\/fox-news\/tucker-carlson-claims-nbc-news-openly-advocating-genocide-white-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a specter that Carlson also invoked on his show<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Carlson\u2019s maneuver was to sever the theory of white victimhood from its\u00a0<em>explicit<\/em>\u00a0white supremacist roots.
