Now Biden is rushing even more arms."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n\n&#8220;One area where the Biden administration has set itself apart is in sending weapons to partner countries, and now we\u2019re getting a more complete picture of what the US is sending Israel in the weeks since October 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, the US has ramped up its previously minimal military aid to the country to an unparalleled&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crsreports.congress.gov\/product\/pdf\/IF\/IF12040#:~:text=From%202014%2C%20when%20Russia%20first,according%20to%20the%20State%20Department.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$46.7 billion<\/a>. Ukraine&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cfr.org\/article\/how-much-aid-has-us-sent-ukraine-here-are-six-charts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">towers<\/a>&nbsp;over the other major recipients in bar charts of US security assistance for 2022 and \u201923. The US is sending so many munitions there that it has apparently strained American factories and led to a whole-of-government&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/02\/15\/fact-sheet-department-of-defense-releases-new-report-on-safeguarding-our-national-security-by-promoting-competition-in-the-defense-industrial-base\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">effort<\/a>&nbsp;to revive military supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US is also accelerating arms transfers to Israel in response to Hamas\u2019s October 7 attacks that killed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/israel-revises-death-toll-oct-7-hamas-attack-around-1200-2023-11-10\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1,200 people<\/a>&nbsp;and resulted in the kidnapping of more than 200. Last month, President Joe Biden announced from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2023\/10\/18\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-october-7th-terrorist-attacks-and-the-resilience-of-the-state-of-israel-and-its-people-tel-aviv-israel\/https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2023\/10\/18\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-october-7th-terrorist-attacks-and-the-resilience-of-the-state-of-israel-and-its-people-tel-aviv-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Oval Office<\/a>&nbsp;that he would seek \u201can unprecedented support package for Israel\u2019s defense\u201d of $14.3 billion. \u201cWe\u2019re surging additional military assistance,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But while Ukraine has never been a traditional recipient of heavy military aid, the US\u2019s most recent support of the Israeli military builds on a long bipartisan American practice. Israel has received about $3 billion annually, adjusted for inflation, for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/11\/04\/us-israel-aid-military-funding-chart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the last 50 years<\/a>, and is the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stimson.org\/2023\/in-shadow-of-war-a-snapshot-of-u-s-military-assistance-to-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">largest historical recipient<\/a>&nbsp;of US security aid. The Obama administration in 2016 announced the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/09\/14\/world\/middleeast\/israel-benjamin-netanyahu-military-aid.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">biggest security assistance package<\/a>&nbsp;to the country ever, pledging&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/obamawhitehouse.archives.gov\/the-press-office\/2016\/09\/14\/fact-sheet-memorandum-understanding-reached-israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$38 billion<\/a>&nbsp;for Israel over the next decade.
