Once&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/TX\/text\/SB4\/id\/2851390\/Texas-2023-SB4-Enrolled.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Senate Bill 4<\/a>&nbsp;takes effect, Texas law enforcement will be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/texas-immigration-law-sb4-signed-greg-abbott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">authorized<\/a>&nbsp;to stop, arrest, and jail migrants\u2014a power that could lead to racial profiling and a costly expansion of policing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S.B. 4 makes it a state crime, ranging from a misdemeanor to a felony, for an undocumented person to enter Texas outside an official port of entry. Law enforcement will be permitted to arrest people they think entered the state illegally, and not just in the border region.
