The CDC reported in November that about&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/lifestyle\/number-babies-born-syphilis-rise-114500544.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3,700 babies<\/a>&nbsp;tested positive for syphilis in the U.S. in 2022 \u2014 more than 10 times the number diagnosed a decade earlier \u2014 and 300 of them were stillborn or died soon after birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why are syphilis cases on the rise? \u201cThere has been a consistent decrease in funding for sexual health services and programs throughout last couple of decades,\u201d&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sph.rutgers.edu\/directory\/kristen-d-krause-phd-mph-sheherhers\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kristen Krause<\/a>, deputy director for the Center for Health, Identity, Behavior and Prevention Studies at the Rutgers School of Public Health, tells Yahoo Life.
