“There are two points of view. One point of view would say, well, for the anti-abortion movement to get anywhere, Republicans need to be in power. If they\u2019re not in line on this and the movement is pursuing a course of action that hurts Republicans come November, that will hurt the movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another point of view is that in a lot of states where the movement is operating, there is no realistic political competition. These are single party states. Regardless of what the movement does in those states, there\u2019s not going to be any cost to Republicans come November. The movement needs to do what\u2019s best for the movement and for its agenda and let the Republican Party figure it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think increasingly that latter view is winning out. The older \u201cYou don\u2019t want to jeopardize Republicans\u2019 elections because Republicans are the movement\u2019s path to power\u201d doesn\u2019t carry as much currency today as it once did.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
