The population has declined for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2024\/08\/16\/chicago-progressivism-urban-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">nine consecutive years<\/a>, is shrinking by an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/worldpopulationreview.com\/us-cities\/illinois\/chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">annual rate of 1 percent<\/a>, and is at its lowest point in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Demographics_of_Chicago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more than a century<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Illinois, where Democrats control the governorship and a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Illinois_General_Assembly\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">two-thirds majority<\/a>&nbsp;of the legislature, lost &#8220;an estimated $3.6 billion in income tax revenue in 2022 alone, a year the net loss of 87,000 residents subtracted $9.8 billion in adjusted gross income,&#8221; syndicated columnist and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Will\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Illinois native<\/a>&nbsp;George Will&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2024\/08\/14\/democratic-convention-illinois-struggles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">observed<\/a>&nbsp;last week. &#8220;In the past six years,&nbsp;$47.5 billion [adjusted gross income] has left\u2026.Illinois leads the nation&nbsp;in net losses of households making 200,000 or more.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>None of these or other grisly Windy City stats\u2014including the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wirepoints.org\/chicago-led-nation-in-homicides-for-12th-year-in-a-row-in-2023-murder-rate-still-5-times-higher-than-nycs-wirepoints\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">murders<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinoispolicy.org\/chicago-pension-funds-still-among-nations-worst-funded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pension liabilities<\/a>\u2014are obscure.
