Gas prices dropped during the early months of the pandemic, for example, because millions of people stayed home and dramatically reduced their gas consumption. But as the Bureau of Labor Statistics documented,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/opub\/mlr\/2020\/article\/from-the-barrel-to-the-pump.htm#:~:text=With%20lockdowns%20throughout%20much%20of,monthly%20decline%20since%20November%202008.\" target=\"_blank\">prices surged as society reopened and the economy started to rebound<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While energy prices have consistently been higher under Biden than they were during Trump\u2019s first term, they have dropped from their heights in 2022, when Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine sent global prices soaring. As the Agriculture Department noted in February,&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ers.usda.gov\/topics\/farm-economy\/farm-sector-income-finances\/farm-sector-income-forecast\/#:~:text=Fuel%20and%20oil%20expenses%20are,driven%20by%20energy%20price%20declines.\" target=\"_blank\">fuel and oil costs saw significant declines<\/a>&nbsp;in 2023 and are expected to decline again in 2024, thanks to drops in global energy prices. U.S. oil prices in the past few days have dropped to their lowest level in two years as OPEC+ says it will increase its own oil production later this year and fuel demand in China looks weaker.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it\u2019s not clear green-lighting more domestic drilling would have much impact on energy costs.
