The fact that Americans choose to buy or sell goods across international borders is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2025\/04\/04\/are-trumps-tariffs-constitutional\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not an emergency<\/a>\u2014it&#8217;s not even a minor worry\u2014and certainly should not justify a massive expansion of executive power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Trump is going to do whatever he wants until someone stops him. On Wednesday, the Senate had a chance to do that. Instead, Republicans voted overwhelmingly to keep the &#8220;emergency&#8221; going, and thus to keep&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2025\/04\/07\/trumps-tariffs-its-not-just-the-stock-market-thats-in-trouble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the trade war<\/a>&nbsp;going too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Senate voted&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1191\/vote_119_1_00225.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">49\u201349<\/a>&nbsp;on Wednesday evening to block Sen.
