The crowd scattered, allowing Secret Service, National Guard, and Park Police personnel to make a path for Trump and his team to visit a nearby church after his address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That led to widespread speculation that Trump or someone else at the White House had ordered the tear gas attack solely to give Trump the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bad_takes\/status\/1267594813710446593\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">photo op<\/a>&nbsp;he wanted with his team at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/article\/news\/local\/dc\/st-johns-church-washington-dc-george-floyd-protest\/65-6dc44732-8560-4179-91ca-0ad56b96e0c9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">St. John\u2019s Episcopal Church<\/a>, a recent cause c\u00e9l\u00e8bre among the right after its basement was partially burned during the unrest on Sunday night.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I asked the White House, via email, a simple question: \u201cDo [you] know who gave the order to clear the crowd in Lafayette Square with tear gas?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s the response from Judd Deere, a White House spokesperson: \u201cThe perimeter was expanded to help enforce the 7:00 pm curfew in the same area where rioters attempted to burn down one of our nation\u2019s most historic churches the night before.
