In a book review published in 2017, for example, Barrett&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/21446700\/amy-coney-barrett-trump-supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">denounced Roberts\u2019s opinions in both&nbsp;<em>NFIB&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>King<\/em><\/a>, claiming the chief justice \u201cpushed the Affordable Care Act beyond its plausible meaning to save the statute\u201d in the first decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If Obamacare is struck down, roughly&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/policy-and-politics\/2020\/3\/2\/21161829\/supreme-court-obamacare-2020-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">20 million Americans will lose health coverage<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 a likely conservative estimate, as it does not count many people who have lost their employer-provided health insurance during the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/coronavirus-covid19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Covid-19<\/a>&nbsp;pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Questions over Obamacare have taken a starring role in Barrett\u2019s confirmation hearing. Democratic senators have repeatedly brought up Barrett\u2019s objections to the&nbsp;<em>NFIB<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>King<\/em>&nbsp;decisions and frequently referred to&nbsp;<em>California v. Texas<\/em>, a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2020\/3\/2\/21147037\/obamacare-supreme-court-texas-john-roberts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">third case attacking Obamacare<\/a>&nbsp;that the Supreme Court will hear in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barrett didn\u2019t deny criticizing the&nbsp;<em>NFIB<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>King<\/em>&nbsp;opinions, but suggested that perhaps she didn\u2019t engage in particularly rigorous analysis when she attacked those two decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After Sen.
