He&#8217;s shifted one of America&#8217;s two major parties in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2018\/02\/15\/trump-leads-attack-on-legal-immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a nationalist, xenophobic direction<\/a>\u2014or perhaps he owes his success to the fact that it had already shifted that direction, but that&#8217;s no better\u2014and elevated people&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2020\/01\/02\/critics-want-immigration-advisor-stephen-miller-fired-over-his-alleged-white-nationalism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">like Stephen Miller<\/a>&nbsp;to places where they can set policy.
