Almost&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantaregional.org\/whats-next-atl\/articles\/metro-atlanta-adds-63600-people-in-past-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4.7 million people live in those 10 counties<\/a>, or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/quickfacts\/GA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">around 45 percent of the state\u2019s population<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Until very recently, the Atlanta area wasn\u2019t a liberal bastion.
