{"id":4286,"date":"2021-01-22T22:49:07","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T22:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lonecandle.com\/?p=4286"},"modified":"2021-01-22T22:49:07","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T22:49:07","slug":"report-capitol-police-knew-congress-might-be-targeted-days-before-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lonecandle.com\/?p=4286","title":{"rendered":"Report: Capitol Police knew Congress might be targeted days before attack"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n\n&#8220;US Capitol Police were aware of the potential for violence specifically targeting Congress on January 6, at least three days before pro-Trump insurgents overwhelmed USCP officers and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2021\/1\/6\/22217307\/thousands-trump-supporters-stormed-us-capitol-evacuate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stormed the US Capitol<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/capitol-police-intelligence-warning\/2021\/01\/15\/c8b50744-5742-11eb-a08b-f1381ef3d207_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to a Friday scoop by the Washington Post<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A January 3 memo from the Capitol Police intelligence division, parts of which were obtained by the Post, highlights the threat of violence by supporters of President Donald Trump in striking detail \u2014 and only adds to confusion about how the attack occurred anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the memo, \u201csupporters of the current president see January 6, 2021\u201d \u2014 the day Congress convened to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/22218006\/congress-electoral-vote-count-joe-biden-president\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">certify President-elect Joe Biden\u2019s Electoral College victory<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 \u201cas the last opportunity to overturn the results of the presidential election.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis sense of desperation and disappointment may lead to more of an incentive to become violent,\u201d the portion of the memo obtained by the Post continues. \u201cUnlike previous post-election protests, the targets of the pro-Trump supporters are not necessarily the counter-protesters as they were previously, but rather Congress itself is the target on the 6th.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The USCP memo also warned that the presence of \u201cwhite supremacists, militia members, and others who actively promote violence, may lead to a significantly dangerous situation for law enforcement and the general public alike.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As it turns out, that\u2019s exactly what happened.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The memo from the Capitol Police\u2019s intelligence division isn\u2019t the only warning law enforcement agencies gave leading up to the violent events of January 6.
