From defying&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/12\/16\/us\/sheriffs-refuse-to-enforce-laws-on-gun-control.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gun control orders<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewtrusts.org\/en\/research-and-analysis\/blogs\/stateline\/2020\/09\/03\/police-pretext-traffic-stops-need-to-end-some-lawmakers-say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">selective enforcement of traffic violations<\/a>, our system has granted wide latitude to law enforcement.&#8221;&nbsp;<br>&#8230;<br>&#8220;The nature of policing requires some level of discretion when it comes to enforcement. Traffic violations are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewtrusts.org\/en\/research-and-analysis\/blogs\/stateline\/2020\/09\/03\/police-pretext-traffic-stops-need-to-end-some-lawmakers-say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">so common<\/a>&nbsp;that police have to decide which ones are worth ticketing and stopping (these decisions are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyu.edu\/about\/news-publications\/news\/2020\/may\/black-drivers-more-likely-to-be-stopped-by-police.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rife with racial bias<\/a>).
