In a statement posted to Twitter, the LAGOP&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.katc.com\/news\/covering-louisiana\/lagop-censures-sen-cassidy-over-trump-impeachment-vote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a>&nbsp;that it \u201ccondemn[s], in the strongest possible terms, the vote today by Sen. Cassidy to convict former President Trump,\u201d while NCGOP chair Michael Whatley&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsobserver.com\/news\/politics-government\/article249241055.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released<\/a>&nbsp;a statement denouncing Burr\u2019s vote as \u201cshocking and disappointing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trump won both Louisiana and North Carolina in 2020. Cassidy was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/policy-and-politics\/2018\/12\/12\/18137479\/trump-cohen-payments-crimes-republican-response\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">loyal to Trump<\/a>&nbsp;throughout Trump\u2019s term in office, but began to distance himself during the impeachment trial, perhaps feeling emboldened by the fact that he just won reelection for another six-year term.
