The news comes less than two weeks after President Joe Biden&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2021\/4\/13\/22381893\/biden-afghanistan-war-withdraw-september-11-taliban\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;that all US troops would be out of the country by September 11, 2021 \u2014 a significant achievement that eluded his predecessors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/04\/25\/world\/asia\/usa-military-withdrawal-afghanistan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York Times<\/a>, Miller, the top commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, told reporters at a press conference in Kabul on Sunday that he had received his orders, and the US would begin \u201ctransitioning bases and equipment to the Afghan security forces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of our forces are now preparing to retrograde,\u201d Miller said,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/04\/25\/politics\/us-troops-afghanistan-withdrawal-austin-scott-miller\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to a CNN report<\/a>&nbsp;of the same press conference. \u201cOfficially, the notification date will be the first of May, but at the same time, as we start taking local actions, we have already begun that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, the Trump administration had set May 1 as the deadline for withdrawing all US troops from the country as part of a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/world\/2020\/2\/29\/21158939\/us-taliban-sign-peace-deal-troops-afghanistan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deal struck with the Taliban<\/a>&nbsp;in February 2020, but as of this month, the US had&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/03\/14\/world\/asia\/us-troops-afghanistan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">about 3,500 troops<\/a>&nbsp;still in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Vox\u2019s Alex Ward reported earlier this month, Biden inherited that promise, and essentially chose to extend the timeline for removal, but without the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aninews.in\/news\/world\/asia\/afghanistan-taliban-rejects-us-peace-plan-six-month-extension-on-troops-withdrawal-deadline20210413201653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Taliban\u2019s explicit approval<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;\u201cWar in Afghanistan was never meant to be a multi-generational undertaking,\u201d Biden said. \u201cWe were attacked.
