More recent research puts the total even higher, at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/opinion\/articles\/2021-03-10\/air-pollution-kills-far-more-people-than-covid-ever-will\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">10 million a year<\/a>. A recent paper suggested that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41612-020-0124-2#Sec3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">90 percent of the world\u2019s population<\/a>&nbsp;lives in areas with air pollution higher than World Health Organization guidelines (guidelines that the organization itself is toughening).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The particles in question here are invisible to the naked eye \u2014 but their effects are anything but.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Air pollution is a tough problem, but the good news is that we can help solve it by solving another tough problem.
