The study estimated that 48.5 percent of children in the countries surveyed have blood lead levels above 5 \u00b5g\/dL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me repeat that: Flint became the symbol of catastrophic lead exposure in the United States. The breakdown of a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrdc.org\/stories\/flint-water-crisis-everything-you-need-know\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long-neglected system<\/a>&nbsp;was so terrible that it led to headlines for months and even became an issue in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/theconversation.com\/what-the-flint-water-scandal-says-about-us-politics-in-2016-55789\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the 2016 presidential election<\/a>.
