And no evidence has emerged to back up&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/10\/19\/hunter-biden-story-russian-disinfo-430276\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">suspicions from former intelligence officials<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/russian-involvement-biden-laptop-unproven\/2020\/10\/24\/ebae1760-1604-11eb-ba42-ec6a580836ed_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">backed by Biden himself<\/a>, that the laptop\u2019s leak was a Russian plot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the emails were indeed being put out as part of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2020\/10\/22\/21529237\/hunter-biden-debate-laptop-tony-bobulinski\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an orchestrated campaign<\/a>&nbsp;by Trump\u2019s team to try to drive negative media coverage toward Joe Biden shortly before the election. And whatever the revelations about Hunter, claims from conservatives that the leaked emails proved Joe Biden acted corruptly in some way were false \u2014 they proved no such thing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There were two supposed \u201csmoking guns\u201d about Joe Biden that conservatives touted in the materials. The first&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/14\/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">was an email<\/a>&nbsp;the Post called a \u201cblockbuster,\u201d in which an executive at the Ukrainian gas company Burisma thanked Hunter for the \u201copportunity to meet your father\u201d in 2015. If you\u2019re steeped in Trumpworld lore, this was damning because of the theory that Biden had the corrupt prosecutor general of Ukraine fired to benefit Burisma, and Biden had said he knew nothing about Hunter\u2019s Ukrainian work, but look, a meeting! (Apparently, it was a dinner at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-9622767\/Emails-reveal-Joe-Biden-DID-meet-Hunters-business-partners-VP.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cafe Milano<\/a>&nbsp;that Hunter had organized, with about a dozen people.) This appears to amount to Vice President Biden seemingly going to one dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The second involved a business venture that Hunter tried to set up with a Chinese energy tycoon in 2017 (after Joe Biden was no longer vice president). But a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/2020\/10\/22\/21529237\/hunter-biden-debate-laptop-tony-bobulinski\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">subsequent email<\/a>&nbsp;from Hunter says his \u201cChairman\u201d gave him \u201can emphatic no,\u201d and a further email clarifies that the chairman is his dad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So this amounts to Joe Biden apparently refusing some deal Hunter tried to enmesh him in. An alternative possibility is that Joe was not actually ever involved and that Hunter had just been throwing his name around. But as for the Biden who was actually on the ballot, there was very little from him personally in those messages (other than an exchange where he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/16\/texts-show-raw-intimate-exchange-between-joe-and-hunter-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">comforts his despondent, drug-addicted son<\/a>).
