The Court&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wicourts.gov\/sc\/opinion\/DisplayDocument.pdf?content=pdf&amp;seqNo=542617\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a>&nbsp;that state law, which requires that mail-in ballots be delivered to a &#8220;mailbox,&#8221; does not allow &#8220;delivery to an unattended ballot drop box.&#8221; The ruling stands as a victory for Republicans in the state, who have consistently attempted to outlaw ballot drop boxes to reduce the incredibly rare phenomenon of voter fraud.&#8221;<br>&#8230;<br>&#8220;However, concerns cited by Republicans\u2014that drop boxes lead to increased voter fraud via &#8220;ballot harvesting&#8221;\u2014are overblown. As CNN&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/factsfirst\/politics\/factcheck_44c8d356-7ac5-46c7-8e7b-3bf11ec5a4e7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a>, ballot drop boxes are &#8220;designed and set up to securely receive ballots without tampering, theft, or other kinds of fraud\u2014they are designed with anti-tampering measures, affixed to the ground, made with durable materials, and often monitored by video surveillance.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research shows that voter fraud concerns are often overstated and exaggerated. A 2007\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brennancenter.org\/our-work\/research-reports\/truth-about-voter-fraud\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a>\u00a0from the\u00a0Brennan Center for Justice\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brennancenter.org\/sites\/default\/files\/analysis\/Briefing_Memo_Debunking_Voter_Fraud_Myth.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">found<\/a>\u00a0vanishingly low rates of confirmed voter fraud, &#8220;between 0.0003 percent and 0.0025 percent,&#8221; arguing that &#8220;[i]t is more likely that an individual will be struck by lightning than that he will impersonate another voter at the polls.&#8221; A<em>\u00a0Washington Post<\/em>\u00a0report on the 2016 election\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/the-fix\/wp\/2016\/12\/01\/0-000002-percent-of-all-the-ballots-cast-in-the-2016-election-were-fraudulent\/\" target=\"_blank\">found<\/a>\u00a0just four confirmed instances of voter fraud.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2022\/07\/14\/the-wisconsin-supreme-court-just-made-ballot-drop-boxes-illegal\/\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/reason.com\/2022\/07\/14\/the-wisconsin-supreme-court-just-made-ballot-drop-boxes-illegal\/<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;the Wisconsin Supreme Court..rendered most ballot drop boxes illegal in the state.
