As we&#8217;ve been planning, our investment of these enforcement resources is&nbsp;<em>designed around<\/em>&nbsp;the Department of the Treasury&#8217;s directive that audit rates will not rise&nbsp;<em>relative to recent years<\/em>&nbsp;for households making under $400,000.&#8221;&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;none of these assurances live in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2022\/08\/11\/irs-controversially-claims-hiring-87000-new-agents-wont-mean-higher-audit-rate-for-the-middle-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">text of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) itself<\/a>. One Republican&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1172\/vote_117_2_00296.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">amendment<\/a>&nbsp;&#8220;to prevent the use of additional Internal Revenue Service Funds from being used for audits of taxpayers with taxable incomes below $400,000&#8243; was voted down on party lines. You&#8217;ll just have to take Democrats&#8217; word for it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;In a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbo.gov\/publication\/57444\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">September 2021 letter<\/a>, CBO Director Phillip L.
