In that format, all voters can cast a ballot that includes every candidate, regardless of party, whereas party primaries mostly involve voters who are either registered with that party or generally back it and who are voting only for candidates from one party. Still, Valadao, the only pro-impeachment Republican running who didn\u2019t face a Trump-endorsed challenger,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/elections.cdn.sos.ca.gov\/sov\/2022-primary\/sov\/86-congress.pdf\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">barely edged out<\/a>&nbsp;fellow Republican Chris Mathys,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourvalleyvoice.com\/2021\/04\/16\/chris-mathys-holds-town-hall-in-campaign-against-valadao\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an ardent Trump supporter<\/a>, 26 percent to 23 percent for second place in his top-two primary.<a href=\"https:\/\/fivethirtyeight.com\/features\/with-cheneys-loss-just-2-house-republicans-who-voted-to-impeach-trump-are-on-the-ballot-in-november\/#fn-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;Newhouse didn\u2019t do much better, essentially tying with the lone Democrat in the race with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/results.vote.wa.gov\/results\/20220802\/congressional-district-4-us-representative.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">25 percent<\/a>.<br>In fact, not a single pro-impeachment Republican captured a majority of the GOP primary vote.
