Supreme Court lifts restrictions on ‘roving’ ICE raids in Los Angeles

“The high court’s majority offered no explanation for its decision to grant the Trump administration’s emergency appeal to block the district judge’s order. However, Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote separately in support of the decision, saying it was reasonable to briefly question people who meet multiple “common sense” criteria for possible illegal presence — including employment in day labor or construction, and limited English proficiency.

The court’s three liberal justices dissented. ”

ICE’s Tricked-Out Trucks Might Boost Recruitment, but They Won’t Make America Any Safer

“Flush with cash from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has spent millions of dollars on flashy custom SUVs and trucks the agency says are essential for public safety and recruitment efforts to meet President Donald Trump’s mass deportation goals.

Government contracts made public and reviewed by The Washington Post reveal that ICE has contracted more than $2.4 million for Chevrolet Tahoes, Ford Expeditions, and other vehicles, as well as custom graphic wraps. The gold-detailed wraps will include the words “DEFEND THE HOMELAND,” according to a social media post by the contractor, Maryland’s AP Tinting & Graphics, along with the words “INTEGRITY,” “COURAGE,” and “ENDURANCE.”

The cost of the new ICE vehicles is in addition to the over $700,000 the agency spent on a pair of trucks designed to mimic Trump’s private jet and used in a Department of Homeland Security social media post on August 14. The wrapped GMC Yukon SUV and Ford Raptor pickup truck were pictured stationed in front of national monuments and government buildings around D.C., with the caption “We will have our country back.” The trucks were also showcased in a recruitment ad posted on social media featuring music by the rapper DaBaby, with the lyrics “My heart so cold I think I’m done with ice (Uh, brr)” and “Better not pull up with no knife (Okay)/’Cause I bring guns to fights.”

The insistence that ICE must spend millions in taxpayer dollars on gaudy vehicles is ironic, considering the agency’s M.O. of using masked, plain-clothed agents in unmarked vehicles to target and arrest undocumented immigrants and violate Americans’ rights. But just as ICE’s immigration crackdown hasn’t really gotten dangerous people off the streets, neither will its marketing ploy protect public safety.”

Trump’s Immigration Crackdown Could Make Wildfire Season Deadlier This Year

“Firefighters on the scene told the Times that “members of the crew were told not to take video of the incident.” When the two firefighters were detained, the rest of the crew was “denied the chance to say goodbye.”

“I asked them if his (family) can say goodbye to him because they’re family, and they’re just ripping them away,” one firefighter told the Times. A federal officer responded by telling him “to get the (expletive) out of here,” or he’d make him leave.”

Why Is Trump’s Border Patrol Arresting Firefighters During a Wildfire?

“On Wednesday, The Seattle Times reported federal law enforcement had arrested “two people fighting the Bear Gulch fire on the Olympic Peninsula.”

Out of 44 crew members onsite, “two individuals were found to be present in the United States illegally, one with a previous order of removal. The two individuals were arrested and transported to the Bellingham Station on charges of illegal entry.”

The arrest was a reversal of federal policy under two presidents. “Absent exigent circumstances, immigration enforcement will not be conducted at locations where disaster and emergency response and relief is being provided,” the Department of Homeland Security announced in 2021, during Joe Biden’s presidency. And in August 2018, under Trump, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) declared it would “suspend routine immigration enforcement operations in the areas affected by” wildfires in northern California, as well as “evacuation sites, or assistance centers such as shelters or food banks.”

“Hispanic immigrants play a pivotal role in wildfire response,” Reason’s Jeff Luse wrote this week. “Federal officials showing up to job sites and removing these workers from privately contracted crews will very likely delay wildfire response times and put more Americans at risk.”

CBP did not reveal the nationality of the two people arrested. Regardless, it’s especially ironic to arrest two firefighters for immigration offenses while they actively fight a wildfire that, as of Wednesday evening, was only 13 percent contained.

there is considerable evidence the Trump administration is simply rounding up as many potential deportees as possible, regardless of the actual danger they pose.”

Not So Fast, ICE

“People who enter the country illegally may still “have a weighty liberty interest in remaining here and therefore must be afforded due process under the Fifth Amendment,” a new federal court ruling says.

The judge suggests that “prioritizing speed over all else will inevitably lead the Government to erroneously remove people via this truncated process,” since “most noncitizens living in the interior have been here longer than two years, rendering them ineligible for expedited removal, and many are seeking asylum or another form of immigration relief, entitling them to further process before they can be removed.””

Why the U.S. is on the Precipice of a Recession — ft. Mark Zandi | Prof G Markets

Hiring is so low, it’s almost like we have a hiring freeze across the country.

The U.S. is on the edge of recession directly because of Trump policies–tariffs, immigration crackdown, DOGE cuts.

Hyperinflation around the world regularly happens after an executive takes control of a central bank and makes it cut interest rates.

Trump Is Building His Own Paramilitary Force | The Ezra Klein Show

Trump ran on mass deportation. Mass deportation inherently requires removing a lot of hard working good people against their will because they crossed a geographic line they weren’t supposed to. If you voted for him thinking he would only remove criminals, then you didn’t pay enough objective attention.

But, Trump is doing more than that. He is violating due process–a basic right to all people. He is forcing a mass of people into detention centers where it is difficult for their family and lawyers to reach them, and where conditions are sometimes abysmal. Trump is using troops and law enforcement to do demonstrations to strike fear.

The militarization of criminal justice can lead to the end of democracy and basic rights.

The administration is actively making it more difficult for those accused of immigration violations to get a lawyer. They are sending police to lawyers’ houses apparently to intimidate them. They are making student loan repayment more difficult for lawyers who defend immigrants.

Masked men who don’t identify themselves and force you into custody is not how democracies do law enforcement.

Trump has purged parts of the military and replaced them with unqualified sycophants. Instead of lawyers telling Trump that what he wants to do is illegal so he can’t do it, this term he has people finding excuses for him to do undemocratic things.

CBP Is Deporting Cruise Ship Crew Over Child Pornography Allegations Without Evidence

“Advocacy groups say more than 100 cruise ship crew members have been deported in recent months, and they’re not being shown the evidence against them or given any due process.”
