Trump is personally involving himself in the investigation of the 2020 election. The investigation itself seems driven by Trump’s false beliefs, or lies, that the election was stolen from him. This could be an attempt to undemocratically steal the 2026 midterms, ironically using false claims of election malfeasance to commit election malfeasance.
In two small focus groups of law enforcement, one of Harris voters and one of Trump voters, the Harris voters in stark and thoughtful terms explain how ICE and Border Patrol are acting unprofessionally and unjustly. The Trump voters seemed to have a lower desire to talk and were more defensive of ICE, but didn’t fully support all the shots fired either.
The FBI raided the wrong house and arrested an innocent family, and tried to resist paying out when that family sued. The Supreme Court ruled that they don’t have special protection in these circumstances, but the government is using similar arguments to still not pay out.
The guy who attacked Ilham Omar had a sad life of divorces, estrangement from family members, 10 DUIs, and limited money. He supported Trump and followed right wing podcasts. He posted racist stuff online. It’s possible that he blamed his crappy life on the left and blacks, and that motivated his attack.
Local police have to be careful about how long they hold illegals in their jails, because it isn’t legal for them to hold people longer than a certain amount of time.
Some police departments don’t cooperate with ICE because it erodes trust with the people they serve, which makes their main job, local policing, more difficult.
