We need engineers and technologists to advance the country forward, including in the government. It’s a great tragedy that when we gave a technologist, Elon Musk, great governmental power, he used it not to build, but to destroy. Rather than using his business and technical expertise to make government better, he used his biased ideology and political incompetence to destroy things that were providing good to Americans and the world.
Because the US has proven itself an unreliable arms supplier over Ukraine, offering weapons and then suddenly taking them away, Germany has decided to replace the US as a major arms supplier to Europe. This will result in a loss of US sales and negotiating leverage over European countries.
Trump was offered Ukrainian anti-drone systems last year, and he turned it down. There would likely be less destroy American equipment and fewer dead Americans if the US had acquired these systems.
Russians are meeting with Iranians likely to discuss, in part, how to kill American soldiers with drones. Yet, Trump still sings Putin’s praises and insults the country Putin is invading.
Trump’s threats on Greenland have shifted Europe away from the United States: militarily, diplomatically, and economically. Chinese businesses are getting business instead of the US because of Trump’s unethical threat to steal Danish territory with military force.
Throughout history, even before it became a global superpower, the United States fought to defend the freedom of the seas. If Iran forces the US to accept an extortionary toll on the Strait of Hormuz, it will be a great blow to the US-led order that allows trade across international waters without heavy fees enforced by deadly power.
Control of the Strait gives Iran control over the price of oil. If they want the price higher, they let fewer ships through.
“Hundreds of Afghan refugees who helped the United States fight the Taliban may be sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo after the Trump administration halted their U.S. resettlement, an advocacy group said.
…
The Democratic Republic of Congo, a Central African country where the Afghans have no ties, is experiencing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, with more than 600,000 refugees there already after decades of armed conflict.
…
Trump has blocked virtually all paths to the U.S. for Afghan allies, more than 190,000 of whom were resettled in the U.S. from August 2021 until mid-2025. Afghan allies and their family members have been detained by U.S. immigration officials, with one of them dying last month after less than 24 hours in custody. (Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the death of Mohommad Nazeer Paktyawal, 41, was being investigated.)”
