The British couldn’t take Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I with 500,000 men. That campaign is analogous to potential ground invasions of Iran. For the US to invade, Iran’s missile and drone abilities have to be eliminated, but despite the many used and taken out, Iran seems to have enough left. In WWII, the US invasion of Normandy was a bloody affair, but Germany’s long range ability was taken out by then or on the eastern front. American military people may be in trouble if they land on Iran.

The Air Force has a doctrine where it should spread out planes and move which bases they fly from so it’s harder to take them out. The US apparently wasn’t practicing that doctrine, and is paying for it.
It is more expensive to move maintenance teams around or have different teams available at multiple bases.

Multiple times, Trump has drawn a red line about attacking Iran’s energy facilities, and then backed off. Iran has been calling Trump’s bluff. Both economically and militarily, Trump likes to push around countries not willing to stand up to the US. But, when countries do, Trump gets his ass kicked. China won the trade war. Iran is winning this war. Trump is a classic bully who only wins when the victim doesn’t fight back.

The US did not learn or implement the lessons from Ukraine regarding drones and protecting planes on the ground. The US looks like Russia losing expensive aircraft on the ground. The US is losing planes, people, radars, and facilities, and so far has gotten nothing from Iran. Iran shows no sign of giving in, and if they don’t, then the US lost expensive equipment, munitions, and lives for little gain. The US is showing that it is not ready for the new change in warfare.
